What a gorgeous ode, Jamie!! One of my first memories with plant life is experiencing the joy of blowing on those big white dandelion puffs and feeling awe and wonder.
It’s interesting that we still think of it as a weed when it is also a food source. My parents loved it so much that they asked relatives in Ohio (where they grew up) to pick the young plants while still budding and mail them to us in Arizona. My parents liked them as a salad but they were far too bitter for me. I doubt they ever tried eating the Arizona variety. Those were probably viewed as weeds. 😏
I agree wholeheartedly that the designation of "weed" is so arbitrary and often applied to the plants least deserving of a typically derogatory moniker. Dandelions are full of good things ... for us and for the bees! I don't mind having them in my garden at all.
That's too funny about your parents asking relatives to mail them young plants! They must have been true aficionados!
This is amazing. Every time I read your writing I just think “wow. She is such a great writer” for real. This is so great
Thank you so much. This was definitely outside my comfort zone to share, but Morher Nature is a good muse. 💜
More please! This felt like coming home 💚
How beautiful! 🥰
Thank you, Claire. A little off topic for me, but that's what Saturdays are for! 😉
