Jamie, you've nailed it with the 'life got lifey' sentiment. It's so easy to get swept up in the busyness and lose sight of those dreams we tucked away for 'someday.' Your reminder to dig them back up is a much-needed kick in the pants. I'm guilty of this myself – my 'someday' list is longer than my grocery list! Time to dust it off and see what little steps I can take today.

Thank you for sharing this post. Very relevant to me now. And I’ll need to come back to it later. I’m very much the same. I’m a taskmaster. I’m always working, working, working. It’s hard to make time for fun because I’ve had a lot of personal burdens that have required my time and energy. It’s been survival mode for so many years! And my attitude and behavior can be modified. I can change! I can do it! Thanks for the reminder. 🥰
Whenever I start thinking about long-held dreams I get a bit overwhelmed by the bigness of the thing I want to do, or of the volume of small things that need to be done to achieve the main thing. And then I don't do it. So I read your post yesterday, panicked, went away and got on with the lifey stuff for the day--while mulling over what thing I could reasonably set myself that's a long-held dream but which I might actually follow through on.
It was obvious really. I want to earn a living from my own writing (not from the writing I do for clients and companies). So the obvious first step is to turn on paid here on Substack. And the first step to doing that is to write two new subscriber emails--a free and a paid version. Not massively complicated, eh?
Your breakdown of steps really helped, Jamie. Thank you! So this is me, telling someone (you) that this is my dream and this is the first step I'm going to take this week. (And also sharing this as a Note to make my intention public and to share your wonderful post.)
Ok! I took my first step and started a paid subscriber chat this morning. I've been putting it off because this step means I'm actually gonna start promoting myself and actively looking for paid subscribers.
And then I flipped straight here and read this post lol. Syncronicity.
