I love the creativity and group effort that went into making this totally fun costume! How wonderful that saying yes to this creation opened a series of yeses for you, including creating your Substack. Yes is one powerful word....!!

Hello, Cathy! I think I was up to my eyeballs working on this year's costume (pics to come on Thursday), and somehow missed your comment. Sorry about that! Thank you for the kind words, and for hyping the power of YES. It's the only way to start any adventure, right? ;)

Absolutely!!

What struck me most about your story wasn't just the end result (though the stilt walker is incredible), but the sheer joy you described in the process. It's a beautiful reminder that saying 'yes' isn't just about the finished product, but about rediscovering that childlike playfulness and embracing the messy, unpredictable journey of creation. Thanks for the inspiration!

You know what, Alexander? That was MY favorite part too! 😉

I realized only recently that while my life and career haven't taken me in that direction. I am a "maker" - I just love building things. This long overdue project was my first return to that creative space in a long time, and it really was magical. Thanks for noticing! I hope you get to play too.

You listed all of the scariest movies - labyrinth, dark crystal, never ending story.. what a time! You did the thing and it makes me so happy! When do we get to see this year’s concoction?

I LOVE those movies, but they are objectively pretty terrifying. Especially the scene in Labyrinth when the goblins are about to steal Toby. That always freaked me out!

I will definitely share this year's as soon as I have pictures. :)

Yeah no wonder we are traumatized! I heard somewhere that a lot of those were made by the same people who made the muppets. What a world.

OMG this is so amazing Jamie! How fun 🎃 Can't wait to see what's next.

Thank you, Rhaine! 💜 It was such a fun project, and - like I said - got me back in touch with how to PLAY, which is so important. This year's creation will be down to the wire (again), but it's coming along. Hope you have a lovely Halloween in whatever way you like to celebrate!

Jamie, this is FABULOUS! And I love the fact that it became a family project. You know how fortunate you are, right?!

It was quite an adventure. I loved how your determination and enthusiasm were so contagious, entangling Dad and me in the project. It was FUN! And it was an inspiration. Looking forward to this year!

It WAS an adventure - and SO much more fun having you and Dad along. Thanks for indulging my insanity! xo

Wonderful! How exquisite...A huge yes to such fun!

"JFDI" ... Just Freakin Do It!!! My "motto" when something begs me to do it, whatever it is!

"JFDI" - I love that!

It's taken me a long time to learn that I actually have more options than I think I do. SO many times, I've *finally* done something only to look back afterwards and wonder why the hell I didn't do it sooner. It's funny how things can seem so "impossible" for so long, and then suddenly you're "just freakin' doing it."😉

So. Much. Fun!

The costume and the story, both.

Thank you so much, Helene. It was truly a labor of love (and possibly minor insanity), but I'm so, so glad we did it. 🥰

Amazing costume!! Also: I had a traumatic Mr. Peanut experience, too!! When I was around 11 or 12 (at peak self-consciousness) I encountered him on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, and he very aggressively came up to me and started interacting with me, and then my parents wanted to take a picture and he was hugging me against his very hard shell and I was so uncomfortable and embarrassed. Now I like to say I was a-SALT-ed by a peanut. (Get it??)

😆😆😆

That is hysterical. Perfect dad joke. Chef's kiss.

Also, I'm so glad to meet another Mr. Peanut survivor. I had no idea his territory extended so far. Such a weird thing, right? Very disturbing.

Indeed! One wonders if he wasn't even affiliated with Planters; he was just some creepy dude who roamed the country in the 1980s in a counterfeit peanut suit.

OMG - I just had a flash vision of an Unsolved Mysteries-esque promo - complete with overly dramatic voiceover - featuring a rogue Mr. Peanut impersonator on a cross-country murder spree.

Thanks for that. 😆
