Monday: The day voted most likely to make you want to stay in bed
Moxie: Confidence, determination, force of character
Monday Moxie: A tiny spark of “Go get ‘em!” curated by yours truly to help you get your day (even a Monday) off to a good start
Welcome to another Monday and another serving of moxie.
It’s Memorial Day here in the states, which means most of us have the day off.
It also means the unofficial start of summer. 🌞
To complement both the holiday vibe and the impending arrival of the year’s sultriest season, I picked a song that would be excellent accompaniment for cruisin’ a winding coastal road with the radio blasting, hair blowing in the wind, and not a care in the world weighing you down.
Sounds nice, right?
🎶 Do you have a favorite driving song? Love to hear it!
Here’s to getting a brand new life, settling all your fights, and letting it go.
See you on Thursday!
We Got This
Queen Herby, 2024 — Track 6 on the album, The Alchemist
Damn, girl, damn, girl
Tell me where you been, girl, been, girl
You been actin’ brand new
Like your toes is in the sand, girl
You tan, girl
Did you get a brand new life?
Did you settle all your fights?
Did you let it go like "Frozen"?
Never givin' up, keep goin'
Yeah, I’m the one you talkin’ ‘bout, bitch
I’m the one
I been so devoted you would think I’m a nun
This is my confession and my truth got it bad
I be living life like it’s the only one I have
Damn, I could be like Venus Serena
I be filling seats, sell out the arenas
Big scenes means you was meant for big things
So, come and vibe out
Take a ride on the lit train
Bitch, we got this
I'ma sit back and enjoy the process
I don’t know what the plot is
It’s a collab with a higher goddess
Bitch, we got this
Been a few times that I was a hot mess
See, at least I’m honest
Right before the dawn, gotta face the darkness
[Chorus]
You deserve ocean views and caviar (Yeah)
PCH cruising and building your catalogue
Of memories filled with love and light
So when the haters comin' at you with some bull
Just give them the matador (Uh)
Olé! Olé!
Give up on your dreams? (Pshh)
No way, no way
You done did your shadow work
Rose up from the dirt, spread your roots
And your wings all over the Mother Earth, yeah
Yeah, you done been reborn, it’s a new life (A new life)
Runnin' up that green under blue skies (Blue skies)
Yeah, built yourself up from the ground
So, can’t nobody break you down
Planted them seeds full of money trees
Water yourself in abundance
Flow from all around (-round)
[Chorus]
Baby, I know, I know, I know, I know
I know we got
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know we got this
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know
I know

Jamie, I love, love, love this image. Harkens me back to the 60's when, as a treat, we would put the top down on my dad's Oldsmobile and would take a road trip, the wind whipping our hair, as my sister and I were in the back seat. As a kid, nobody seemed to think, oh-maybe we should put a scarf on these girls heads to keep their hair from getting tangled. It usually took a good day or so to work out the nest of tangles and clumps. But that was part of the wildness, the freeing of it was the wind, and hair blowing, and gasoline smell at the pump :)
