Hello!!!

I’m running a little late this morning because I had a very busy (in all the best ways) weekend, but it’s always a good time for a little Monday Moxie — morning, noon, or night … any day of the week. So, let’s do this!

Today’s song is “There She Goes,” which was originally written and produced by the British band, The La’s, back in the late 80s. Since then, it has been covered by numerous artists including Sixpence None the Richer, Robbie Williams, and The Boo Radleys.

I first fell in love with the song in 1997 when Sixpence None the Richer included their cover on their eponymous album, but apparently the original track by The La’s has received more than its share of accolades. According to the Wikipedia entry on the song, NME (New Musical Express, a popular British culture publication) placed the song at number 45 in its list of the 50 Greatest Indie Anthems Ever. And in a piece for NPR’s All Songs Considered, musician Ben Gibbard called “There She Goes” a perfect song.

No wonder so many people have covered it!

The song is experiencing a lovely new life over on TikTok where a fresh remix by CYRIL and MOONLIGHT has become the theme song for a trend called “a shimmy a day keeps the sad away.”

Sometimes TikTok is a terrible place and a colossal waste of time. And sometimes, the humans behind all those short videos bring us something beautiful and fun and good for us.
