Monday: The day voted most likely to make you want to stay in bed
Moxie: Confidence, determination, force of character
Monday Moxie: A tiny spark of “Go get ‘em!” curated by yours truly to help you get your day (even a Monday) off to a good start
I’ve got two things for you today. Both of them relate to the piece I’m working on for Thursday — “Why didn’t anyone tell me?” — which will feature a television scene that has stuck with me for nigh on twenty years now, despite having been part of an early aughts TV zeitgeist that fell squarely into the “chewing gum for the brain” category.
This first thing I have to share is a poem by the writer Hannah Napier Rosenberg. Hannah has a Substack called HannahRoWrites, but her larger following is on Instagram, which is where I found this gem:
“To impress less and connect more.”
I love that.
The second thing I have to share is an Andy Grammer song. (I warned you Monday Moxie would feature a lot of Andy’s music.) I picked this song not only because it’s a nice match for this week’s theme, but also because my beau and I are taking my parents to see Andy Grammer this week. This will be the third time my beau and I have seen him in concert, but the first time we’ll experience his solo show.
I hope this song, which features Elle King, feels like the hug it’s meant to be.
I’ll be back on Thursday, and look forward to “seeing” you then!
Best of You
(Andy Grammer (feat. Elle King), 2020 single)
Yeah, I've met your demons, but they do not scare me I know they'll be angels once they learn to fly I've seen all your seasons, your cold February I know you'll be blooming in a matter of time What I'm saying is I get you, get you Nothing we can't get through If I see you going down that road Then I won't let you I'll catch you no matter how far you fall 'Cause the best of me loves the best of you And all the rest, I can see right through You trust in me and I'll trust you too 'Cause the best of me, loves the best of you Oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh You've seen my dark side and danced with my shadow You never run from, run from a fight Now I'll be your ally through all the battles And I know, and I know, and I know it'll be alright What I'm saying is you know me, know me Wrestled with the old me Saved me at my lowest, all you had to do was hold me Console me, no matter how far I fall 'Cause the best of me loves the best of you And all the rest, I can see right through You trust in me and I'll trust you too 'Cause the best of me loves the best of you Oh, oh (yeah), oh Yeah, I've met your demons, but they do not scare me I know they'll be angels once they learn to fly Yeah, I'm telling you the best of me loves the best of you And all the rest, I can see right through You trust in me and I'll trust you too 'Cause the best of me loves the best of you The best of me Oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh The best of you Oh, oh (the best of you), oh Yes, I do, yes, I do Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Andrew Grammer / Jack Casey Torrey / Johan Carl Erik Carlsson / Stephen Philibin Best of You lyrics © BMG Rights Management, Concord Music Publishing LLC, Kobalt Music Publishing Ltd.
Powerful, comforting, warm messages in both song and poem! I'm always so grateful for your injections of positivity! (Looking forward to Tuesday!)
Thanks for this! What a wonderful Monday treat.
